This Safari focus on the mountain Ape (G. b. beringei) has about 700 individuals. In addition, scientists are considering elevating the Bwindi gorilla population (which numbers about half of the mountain gorilla population) to the rank of subspecies.There are at least two subspecies of the eastern gorilla: the mountain gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei) of the volcanic slopes of Rwanda, Uganda and eastern Democratic Republic of Congo; and the eastern lowland gorilla (Gorilla beringei graueri) of the lowlands of eastern Democratic

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Kigali airport

Upon arrival at Kanombe international Airport in Kigali, meet our professional safari guide who will transfer you to Kigali city. If you arrive early we recommend you to take city tour and if the arrival is late drive to lodge for dinner and overnight stay at Kigali Serena Hotel/Golf Hills Residence or Okapi Hotel.

Day 2: Kigali-Nyungwe Forest National Park

After breakfast from your Hotel transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park. En route visit the old King’s Palace in Nyanza. Lunch en-route, proceed to the Park. Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Forest Lodge or Gisakura Guest House.

Day 3: Chimpanzee tracking

After breakfast, drive to the park headquarters for a briefing by the rangers then set off for the Chimpanzee trekking activity with in the forest to search for the man’s closest friends. You will be accompanied by Forest Ranger guides who will show you different forest trail. The activity takes around 3-5 hours. Return to the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon, you will take a guided nature walk with in the forest. This will enable all those bird loving tourists to spot different bird species with in the forest. You should look out for birds like the black and white casqued hornbill and the Rwenzori Turacco. Dinner and overnight stay at Gisakura Guest House /Nyungwe Forest Lodge/ Nyungwe Hotel

Day 4: Canopy and Forest walk

After breakfast, with your packed lunch for a full day forest guided walk with in Nyungwe Forest National Park. we shall start with a amorning canopy walk and later proceed with a nature forest walk on this long walk, you will visit the Kamiranzovu waterfalls where you will enjoy your picnic lunch. On this walk expect to see a lot of bird species and also primates like Apes and monkeys. Return back to your lodge for Dinner and overnight stay at Gisakura Guest House /Nyungwe Forest Lodge/ Nyungwe Hotel

Day 5: Kibuye on the shores of Lake Kivu

After breakfast, head to Kibuye with a Lunch stop over en-route, upon arrival in the after noon take a boat trip either to Napoleon’s Island (it’s shaped like Napoleon’s hat) or Amahoro (peace) Island. Return for dinner and overnight at Kibuye.

Day 6: Transfer to Gisenyi

After breakfast, transfer to Gisenyi town on the Northern shores of Lake Kivu. Lunch en-route, after go and visit the fishing villages around the town, the solid field lava from Nyiragongo Mountain that erupted in 2002 and also the hot springs. Dinner and Overnight at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel,

Day 7: Boat ride on Lake Kivu-Ruhengeri

Early morning breakfast, take a short boat ride on Lake Kivu and visit the different fishing villages. Return for a fascinating lunch. After lunch, transfer to Ruhengeri town. You will pass through magnificent views of the beautiful, hilly countryside which forms Rwanda’s name “a thousand hills”. Dinner and overnight stay at Gorilla Nest Lodge or Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge.

Day 8, Gorilla trekking

After break fast drive to Tshivanga Visitor Centre for briefing by the trekkers. after you will then acompanied by armed game rangers. The gorilla group that you will visit will depend on the assignment of travellers to the seven habituated gorilla groups. Park rangers have already left to locate the 7 habituated Gorilla groups that are accessible to visitors. You will be assigned to a specific group of gorillas. Groups of trekkers will have a maximum of 8 visitors per gorilla family. Your trek will vary in length depending on which gorilla group you have been assigned to and will commence at about 7,000 feet of altitude in the upper terraced slopes of the volcano. Soon you will enter the forest of bamboo and thick undergrowth. In the forest you will be allowed at least an hour in the presence of the these gorillas. Return to the lodge for relaxation and overnight at Mt Gorilla View Lodge or La Palme Hotel. or Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge

Day 9: Golden monkey tracking

Today have breakfast go for other experience, Golden Monkey tracking in the Volcanoes National Park. These Golden Monkeys are the most endangered primates with in the forest. It is a short adventure and after return to your lodge for lunch. After noon visit the Dian Fossey centre. Return to lodge for dinner and Overnight. at Mt Gorilla View Lodge or La Palme Hotel. or Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge

Day 10: Mountain Bisoke hike

Early in the morning, you will gather at the park headquarters where you will meet your hiking guides for a short briefing from there, you will then start on your hike to Mountain Bisoke pick. It’s not such a big mountain and the hike to the top will only take 3 or 4 hours depending on the strength and fitness of the hikers. Upon reaching the top, descend back and transfer to your hotel for relaxation. Return to lodge for dinner and Overnight. at Mt Gorilla View Lodge or La Palme Hotel. or Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge

Day 11: Volcanoes-Akagera National Park

After an early morning breakfast, depart for Kigali.for a short city tour and places to visit here may include Genocide Memorial sites. Have a lunch stop over en-route to Akagera National Park in the East of Rwanda bordering Tanzania. enter with a game drives in such for animal like the Lions, Elephants, Buffaloes, and so on. Dinner and overnight stay at Akagera Game Lodge

Day 12: Game drive and boat ride on Lake Ihema

Start with an early morning breakfast, later proceed for game drive in the park.  Here you will spot variety of animals like Lions, Elephants, Buffaloes, Giraffes, hyenas among others. In the afternoon take a boat ride on Lake Ihema look out for water animals like hippos, crocodiles and as well bird species along the lake banks. Return to lodge for dinner and overnight stay at Akagera Game Lodge

Day 13: Akagera-Kigali City

After breakfast, check-out and start with a game drive in the park.  To look out for more and other game, wildlife like Lions, Elephants, Buffaloes, Giraffes, hyenas among others also look out for some savannah primate and bird species. later proceed to Kigali dinner and overnight Kigali Serena Hotel or Okapi Hotel.

Day 14: Departure

After breakfast, go for another city tour visit historical site of interest after our guide will drop you at the airport for your flight back home.
